I ran across another list on 11 ways to help beat "fibro fog" by Beth W. Orenstein (/authors/beth-w-orenstein/)

Many of the 10 million people in our country that struggle with fibromyalgia complain of cognitive difficulties, we refer to "fibro fog" or "brain fog." Or brain dead, half of my gray matter is dead!!!

The causes still aren't fully understood, and may never be. I thought that it was very interesting that this article talked about the main cause possibly being the inability to sleep well! It may be that patients are "chronically fatigued", says Corey Walker, MD, a rheumatologist at the Intermountain Health Care System in Logan, Utah. "Their minds are not rested." And then you throw in the mix debilitating pain, who could think right?!!

Another theory is that when people have intense fibromyalgia pain, parts of their brain do not receive enough oxygen, which can cause confusion and even disorientation. These are some of the best explanations, in my opinion! There is nothing worse than talking to someone, or a group of someones, and not only are you unable to think of one word in the conversation, then you cannot think of another word in the same breath!!!!

You know the feeling!!! ' You know that "whatamacallit", ' thingamagig', ' thingamahopper!"
I hate it!! Someday I am going to wear a sandwhich sign that trys to explain the situation!! HA HA
Sorry here's their list to help navigate thru the fog better:
1 Avoid caffeine. Boo Hoo It goes on to explain that since caffeine is a stimulant, you can crash when it wears off.
2 Use a planner. Good luck!!! I think it is funny that the list goes on to say to set a timer to help you remember to take the meatloaf out of the oven! About half the time, I forget and the timer is in another room!
3 Get in a rut!
4 Organize your space! ha ha Seriously, they refer to Removing clutter (adhd/photogallery/how-to-conquer-clutter.aspx).
5 De-Stress - hmmmmm Yoga and meditation are helpful. I know that yoga helps me at the doctor's office to relax, and at other times! It is a great help! And strengthens the inner core. Not really for losing weight, darn!!
6 Breathe deeply - Fibrofolk are know to be shallow breathers!!!! It goes with the territory that when you are experiencing pain, your shoulders are probably be under your ears, like mine! We hold our breath when we are under stress!
7 Get better sleep - kind of an oxymoron! There are sleep hygiene habits that can help normal people!!! not insomniacs unfortunately!!
8 Get regular exercise
9 Eat healthy.
10 Check on your meds! We need to make sure that we are taking them properly, and in the right dosage!

These are some more helpful ideas in dealing with the cognitive, as well as other issues associated with this chronic condition.
