Chronic pain and all of the related issues can not only be debilitating, but the stress that can accompany all of this can seem unbearable!

Are you a "what if-er?"

What if I cannot get my medicine?

What if the doctor retires? No other doctor will understand the insomnia!om

What if I cannot get out of bed when the grandkids come?

What if the medicine stops working?

What if my entire family thinks I am "nuts!"

Blah, blah, blah.........

These are some examples of my own questions that run like a ticker tape in my brain, if I allow them to continue. Sometimes, this can be happening a number of times in the same day!

Sometimes, I have to remind myself over and over that these kinds of questions are like "terroristic thinking!" They can literally amp up my blood pressure.

These "What Ifs" can be less emotionally harmful, if I think the question thru rationally, rather than irrationally.

For example, What if I cannot get my medicine? - can be broken down statement by statement.

The doctor does not want a patient to run out of medicine. They can do something.

The pharmacy has given you extra medication in the past, if this were to happen.

If out of town, the pharmacy can transfer a prescription. There would be other doctors that could help.

Don't forget you have some samples. (I have to remind myself due to forgetfulness!) Ugh

What are the chances that this will actually happen? They are pretty slim.

Another example would be, "I'm late and the doctor will be angry for having to wait."

"It's not the end of the world that I am late. I have rarely been late. I'll call the doctor's office and let them know, and they can take the next patient who is waiting." I like that last idea a lot.

In the big scheme of things, "How important is this anyway?"

It is not easy to remember to change negative thoughts into positive ones! When dealing with constant pain and discouragement, it takes lots of practice and reminders! I can personally attest to that! But it can literally change the thought pattern and decrease stress!

From Me to U!

Have a good week.

There is light in the "fog!"
